Are You Getting What You Pay For?

At Gerber, our mission is to Protect Those Who Serve. Garments Certified to the NFPA 1999, 2008 Edition Standard protect the wearer from contracting blood born pathogens such as Hepatitis and HIV.

Response Parka

Protection, protection, protection! This parka has it all. NFPA 1999 Certified for protection against blood born viruses, such as hepatitis and HIV, as well as being ANSI 107 Class 3 compliant for the highest level of visibility. This garment is the ultimate in safety for the First Responders in any situation.

It has recently come to our attention that some companies who manufacture outerwear are selling their product as "compliant" to the NFPA 1999 standard. For your protection we have made the following chart to help you recognize if your garment is truly Certified to the most recent edition of the NFPA 1999 Standard.

NFPA 1999, 2008 Edition Certified

NOT NFPA 1999, 2008 Edition Certified

The label in your outerwear reads: Certified to the NFPA 1999, 2008 Edition Standard, and has the mark of an independent testing agency such as Underwriters Laboratories.

It is clearly stated in the NFPA 1999, 2008 Edition Standard point 4.1.9 that:

"The certification organization shall not issue any new certifications to the 2003 edition of this standard on or after the NFPA effective date for the 2008 edition. which is 31 December 2007."

The label in your outerwear reads Certified to the NFPA 1999, 2003 Edition Standard, or only states "Compliance" to the standard.

The NFPA 1999, 2008 Edition Standard clearly states:

"4.1.10 The certification organization shall not permit any manufacturer to continue to label any protective clothing items that are certified as compliant with the 2003 edition of this standard on or after 3OJune 2008.""4.1.11 The certification organization shall require manufacturersto remove all certification labels and productlabels indicating compliance with the 2003 editi n of this standard from all protective ensembles and ensemble elements that are under the control of the manufacturer on 3OJune 2008, and the certificationorganization shall verif that this action is taken."
